PreK-4 lessons for the week of June 8, 2020 Getting Ready for Kindergarten
Math - Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity, Ten Frame, Number Line
Procedure – 10 Frame, Number Line Count, Number Houses, Sing to 100 Video (see pictures)
Ten Frame – Create a “Ten Frame” out of tape or 10 squares of paper. Your child will need a deck of playing cards and 10 items to use for counting. Take out the picture cards in the deck of cards leaving only the number cards. Placing the deck of cards upside down, have your child pick one card at a time. Have your child identify and count the pictures on the card. Place that many items in the 10 frame. You can also use a dice to roll and count or 2 pairs of dice for your child to count numbers higher than 10.
Number Line Counting – Create a large number line like in the picture sent. Please make sure you have the number 1 written at the beginning of the number line and the number 20 at the end with the 18 small lines in between. You can tape the number line on the wall or put it on the floor. Have your child write the numbers 1-20 on post it notes or small pieces of paper. Mix the numbers up and put them upside down so your child can’t see them. Have your child pick one paper at a time, identify the number and correctly put it where it belongs on the number line.
Number Houses – Have your child (or you) draw 10 houses with a triangle roof and a large square underneath. Divide the bottom square into 4 smaller squares. Have your child write the number 1-10 on the triangle roof of each house. In each box below, have your child write the number again, the same number of lines, the same number of dots and the same number of triangles in the squares below. (follow the picture) You can make houses 11-20 as well!

Have your child help you with chores like setting the table, folding the laundry, etc. Have your child count the forks, napkins and plates. Sorting the laundry and counting how many shirts, socks, pants, etc. you washed. These are not only fun math activities but life skills as well!

Print the paper or use your own paper to draw and color a picture of something that makes you feel crabby and a picture of something that makes you feel happy. Share your answers with your family. Ask your family the same questions. See if their answers are the same as yours!
“The Pigeon Has to Go School” Read Aloud on YouTube – Why do you think the Pigeon doesn’t want to go to school? What would you tell Pigeon about your school? What would you say to make Pigeon feel better? Draw and color a picture of you and Pigeon doing something fun together in school that would make Pigeon feel better. Share your picture with your family. Ask your family what they would do with Pigeon to make him feel better.
What’s in the Letter Bag? – Print or create the “What’s in the Letter Bag” papers. Have your child write all the upper and lowercase letters on small individual pieces of paper. Put all the letters in a bag. For the first game, have your child pick one letter paper at a time identifying the letter and coloring it in on the coloring letter sheet. For the second game, put all the letters back in the bag for your child to pick. Have your child identify the letter picked and trace it on the tracing letter sheet.
Alphabet Match-up – Have your child write the uppercase letters of the alphabet out of order on the top of a large narrow sheet of paper and the lowercase letters out of order on the bottom of the sheet of paper. (Follow the picture sent) Have your child draw lines from top to bottom to match the uppercase and lowercase letters. Have your child say the letters and letter sounds as they draw the matching lines.
Letter Sounds Song – Google – Letter Sounds on YouTube - Have fun and sing with your family! See how many letters and letter sounds you know! Pout Pout Poem – Have someone read the Pout Pout Poem to you. Talk about the poem and what the words mean.

Portrait Drawings – #1 Use a plastic sheet protector and washable markers to draw someone’s face. Be gentle when you’re tracing the parts of the face. Show everyone what it looks like when you’re done! Take turns having everyone trace each other’s face! #2 – Tape paper on the back of each other. Without looking, take turns drawing each other’s portraits. I can’t wait to see them!
Science -Objective: Following Directions, Experiments, Procedure – Nature Tape Jewelry, Bubble Snake, Gratitude Scavenger Hunt (see pictures and google experiments)
Nature Tape Jewelry – Place tape around each other’s wrist. Go on a nature hunt to find flowers, grass, etc. to put on the tape to create a nature bracelet!
Bubble Snake – Google the experiment and follow the directions to make your own “Bubble Snake.” Google “Bubble Snake Maker”
Gratitude Scavenger Hunt – Have fun finding all the items on the list. Take a picture and send it to me showing me all the items you found!
Dramatic Play -Objective - Role Play
Procedure: Role play being Pout Pout Fish and Pigeon from the stories you read. Use can use the projects you made too! Pretend to be the characters in the stories.
Kind and Unkind – Print the Kind and Unkind activity. Talk about the Kind and Unkind pictures with your family. Cut and glue them where they belong. Act out the pictures using your words and actions. Talk about why each picture is being Kind or Unkind.

Math - Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity
Procedure – Love Bug Counting Tower, Cookie Match, Number Dice Game (see pictures)
Love Bug Counting Tower – Print the 2 Love Bug Tower papers or have your child write the numbers 1-20 on a large sheet of paper. Using small counters such as coins, small Legos, small sheets of paper, bottle caps or anything you can stack on top of each other, have your child identify the number then count and stack the counters on top of the number.
Cookie Match – Print the 3 Cookie Match pages or have your child write the numbers 1-10 on circles, write the number names one-ten on circles and draw 1-10 dots on circles. Cut out the circles and mix them up. Have your child identify, find and match the numbers, number names and dots. You can also do this for the numbers 11-20.
Number Dice Game – Print the 2 Number Dice Game pages or have your child write the numbers 1-20 from the bottom to the top on 2 separate sheets of long paper. Roll one dice. Count the dots rolled and move that many spaces up the row of numbers. Have your child identify the number landed on. The first one to make past the number 20 wins.

“Wemberly Worried” Read Aloud on YouTube. Talk about what being worried means. What were some of the things Wemberly worried about in the story? What made Wemberly feel better? Who made Wemberly feel better? What happened at the end of the story? On one side of a piece of paper draw and color a picture of something you worry about. On the other side the paper, draw and color a picture of something that makes you feel better. Talk about your pictures to your family. Ask you family about things that make them worry. What makes your family feel better?
“Is Your Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten?” Read Aloud on YouTube. Talk about your favorite part of the story. What are some things you think you will do in Kindergarten? Draw and color a picture of something you’d like to do in Kindergarten. Talk about your picture to your family.
Alphabet Game – Print the page with the colored circles or make your own paper that has the same number of circles placed the same way. Have your child write the letters of the alphabet in each circle. There are more circles than letters so have your child write both lowercase and uppercase letters - one letter in every circle. Some letters will be written twice to fill in all the circles. Have your child roll one dice and count the number of dots rolled. Your child will count and move that many spaces. Have your child identify the letter and letter sound landed on. Roll until you get to the word end. If 2 players play, the first one to land on end wins.

Wemberly Worried Mouse – Create your own “Wemberly” mouse to use when retelling the story.
Buffalo Puppet – Draw, color and cut your own “Buffalo” puppet to use for the story “Is Buffalo Ready for Kindergarten?” Act out scenes from the story.
Emotions – Create your own “Mood Meter.” Draw, color and cut or print the happy, sad, angry, silly, excited, and calm faces. Glue them on a long strip of paper. Place a clothespin, paper clip or sticker by the face of how you feel each day. Talk about how you feel and why. Have your family make one too so you can talk about how you all feel each day.

Procedure - Cloud Dough, Nature Portrait Art, Ice Cream in a Bag, Sensory Scavenger Hunt (see pictures)
Cloud Dough – Follow the directions to create “Cloud Dough.” Use the “Cloud Dough” to create letters, numbers, shapes, etc. Share your “Cloud Dough” with your family!
Nature Portrait Art – Go on a nature hunt and collect leaves, flowers, pebbles, sticks, acorns, seeds, etc. Create friend and family portraits using the nature items you collected! Draw the rest of your nature portrait using crayons or markers. See how many friends and family members you can make! Have others guess who you created!
Ice Cream in a Bag – Follow the recipe and make your own ice cream! Take pictures to show us how you made it! Talk about the ingredients and the step by step instructions you followed! Share the ice cream you made with everyone!
Sensory Scavenger Hunt – Fill in the boxes of the favorite things you love to look at, feel, smell, listen to and taste. You can draw pictures for your answers or have someone help you spell the words you need to write. You can also take pictures of your favorite things too!
Dramatic Play -Objective - Role Play
Procedure: Role play being Wemberly and the Buffalo in the stories you read. Use can use the projects you made too! Pretend to be the characters in the stories.

Procedure – Create structures for your friends and family using the blocks and Legos you have at home. Make it a surprise! Create something you know they will love!

Straw Pick Up Game – Cut up different colored one inch paper squares. Inhaling into a straw, pick up as many of the squares you can by just using the straw and breathing in. Count the number of squares you collected. The person who picks up the most squares wins!

PreK-4 lessons for the week of May 25, 2020 Insects
Get out any insect toys you have! They can be used for some of our insect activities!
Math - Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity, Sequencing, Charts
Procedure – Ladybug Roll and Color, Story Sequencing, Insect Count and Graph, Count the Room (see pictures)
Count the Room – Print the Count the Room page along with the 2 insect pages. Cut out the 12 insect boxes on each page. Have someone hide the 12 insect pictures for you to find. When you find the insect pictures, count how many insects are in each box and write the numbers on the line next to the matching insect.
Ladybug Roll and Color – Roll one dice and count the dots you rolled. Color in the number on the ladybug that matches the dice number you rolled.
Insect Count and Graph – Print the insect graphing sheet. Identify and count how many of each insect you see. Color the boxes showing how many insects you counted.
Favorite Insect Chart – Print or draw the insects that is on the insect sheet – ant, bee, butterfly, fly, caterpillar and ladybug. Create a Favorite Insect Chart. Ask your family which animal is their favorite and create a chart for all to see! Following the chart picture, have everyone write their names above each insect that is their favorite. Before you begin, predict which insect will have the most votes. See if your prediction was correct! Talk about which insect had the most, least, same number, etc.
Numbers and Number words – Following the number charts, write the numbers 1-20 the way the chart shows you.

Read Alouds on YouTube- “There Was An Old Lady That Followed A Fly” Talk about the story. What animals did the old lady swallow? Draw and color 2 of your favorite animals she swallowed. What would you have swallowed if you were the old lady? Draw and color a picture of yourself with a big belly and draw and color 2 animals that you would swallow. Have someone help you write the names of the animals you chose.
“The Very Lonely Firefly – Read aloud on YouTube – Talk about your favorite part of the story. What made the firefly lonely? Draw and color a picture of what makes you feel lonely. Share and tell your family about your picture.
“The very Quiet Cricket” – Read aloud on YouTube – Why is the cricket quiet? What is your favorite part of the story? Talk about things you do that are quiet. Draw and color a picture of something you like to do that is quiet.
Insect Names – Write the insect names in your notebooks from the insect sheet sent. Draw and color 3 of your favorite insects from the insect paper. Talk about why you chose those insects as your favorite. Identify their 6 legs, 2 antennae, head, thorax and abdomen.
Bug ABC song on YouTube – Have fun singing with your family. Secret Insect – Choose an insect picture or project you made. Put your insect in a bag so nobody can see it. Have someone guess which insect is in your bag by the clues you give. Have someone hide and give hints for you to guess the insects too!

Bug Hunt – Print the Bug Hunt paper. Go on a Bug Hunt and try to find the insects on your list. Check off the insects you find. Draw other insects not on the list that you found. Talk about your Bug Hunt. Where did you find the most insects? What were the insects doing? What was your most favorite insect you found?

Fly Swatter Painting – Using a fly swatter, dip it in paint and make your own designs on a large sheet of paper.
Hide and Seek Insects – Using all the insects you made during this unit, hide them around inside or outside your home and have someone find them. Give hints using the words next to, under, on top of, etc. Have someone then hide the insects for you to find. Listen to the clues and have fun!

PreK-4 lessons for the week of May 18, 2020 Insects
Get out any insect toys you have! Caterpillars and Butterflies are this week! They can be used for some of our insect activities!
Math - Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity, Patterns Procedure – Caterpillar Patterns, Caterpillar Fingerprints, Butterfly, Where Are You? Butterfly color by number (see pictures)
Caterpillar Patterns – Print the caterpillar sheet with the 3 caterpillars. Make patterns using objects in your home or by drawing and coloring in the circles. Follow the Pattern sheet to make different types of patterns.
Caterpillar Fingerprints – Write the numbers 1-20 in order or mixed up on a long sheet of paper. Draw one caterpillar face next to each of the numbers. Identify the numbers you wrote and make that many fingerprints to match the number. Instead of fingerprints, you can draw circles to match the numbers.
Butterfly Color by Number – Print the butterfly color by number. Identify the numbers and color the butterfly using the colors that match the numbers.
“Butterfly, Where Are You?” – Write the numbers 1-20 on 20 squares. Draw or print a small butterfly. Have someone hide the butterfly behind one of the numbers. Say “Butterfly, Butterfly Where Are You?” Call out a number and look to see if the butterfly is behind that number. If not, call out another number until you find it. You can hide the butterfly under the numbers too for someone else to find!

Write your friend’s names on each handprint. Glue the handprints to make the legs for your caterpillar. You can do a family caterpillar too with the names of your family members!
Read Alouds on YouTube- “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” Talk about the story. What did the caterpillar eat each day? Write the days of the week with someone’s help on 7 paper plates. Color and draw a picture or print the foods the caterpillar ate and glue them on the correct plates. What you would eat each day if you were a very hungry caterpillar? You can print and/or draw and color your own foods for each day and put them on the paper plates as well! “Butterfly – Animals for Kids - All Things Animal TV” on YouTube – Talk about what you saw on the video. What are the parts of a butterfly? What does a butterfly eat? How does a butterfly’s life begin? Draw and color a picture of the 4 stages of a butterfly - Egg, Caterpillar, Chrysalis and Butterfly. Share your pictures with your family.
Cc Scavenger Hunt – Find as many Cc items you can find on the Cc Scavenger Hunt list. Take a picture of all the items you found!
The Hungry Caterpillar Game – Print and follow the directions on how to play The Hungry Caterpillar Game. You‘ll need dice to roll numbers. Count and identify the numbers you roll then follow the game’s directions.

Get out any insect toys you have! Ants and Ladybugs are this week! They can be used for some of our insect activities! Please write your first and last name every day.
Math- Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity, Number names
Procedure – Ladybug Numbers, Ants on a Log, Number Names (see pictures)
Ladybug Numbers – Print the large ladybug or draw and make one of your own. Find 20 small items to use as counters. (cheerios, buttons, small paper circles, etc.) Have your child write the numbers 1-20 on individual small pieces of paper. Mix up the numbers and one at a time hold a number up to your child. Have your child identify the number and count out and put that many small items on the ladybug to show that number you held up. Have your child count out loud as the counters are placed on the ladybug. Ants on a Log – Cut paper to create a large log. Find 20 items to use as ants (raisins, chocolate chips, etc.) You can use the numbers written from the Ladybug Numbers game. Lay the paper numbers out so your child can see them. Have your child pick and identify a number. Your child will then count out that number and place the counters on the log. Number Names – Have your child write the number names one-ten. Mix up the letter words and have your child identify the number names. You can say a number and have your child find the number name.

Ladybug Letters – Print the picture of the ladybugs with the letters on them. Have your child write the lowercase letters of the alphabet on small round pieces of paper. Lay the lowercase letters out for your child to see. Have your child pick one letter at a time to put on top of its uppercase partner letters on the ladybugs. Raisin/Chocolate Chip Letters – Have your child write large upper and lowercase letters on paper. Cover the letters you wrote with raisins and chocolate chips. If you can, make upper and lowercase letters with the raisins and chocolate chips on your own without using the written letters! See how many letters you know how to make on your own. Read Alouds on YouTube- “The Grouchy Ladybug” Talk about the story. Why was the ladybug grouchy? What makes you grouchy? Draw and color a picture of what makes you grouchy. PreK-4 Week of May 4, 2020 Lessons Insects Please write your first and last name every day. Get out any insect toys you have! They can be used for some of our insect activities!
Math - Objective: Number Recognition, Number Order, Counting, Matching Numbers to Quantity, Positional Words (see pictures)
Procedure – Bee Positional Words/Numbers 6-10/Swat the Numbers/I Spy: Bugs/Bee Number Line
Bee Positional Words – Print the positional bee pictures or use pictures of bees you have. Direct your child to place the bee pictures in the correct positions (above, below, left, right, behind, on) around your house. (place the bee behind the tv, to the left of the table, etc.) You can also hide the bee pictures and have your child find them, saying the bee is above, below, on, behind, to the left/right etc. of something in this room.
Numbers 6-10 – Write the numbers 6-10 each day in your notebooks. Have someone help you write the number words. Write the number names 3x’s a day in your notebooks. (Write the number word six 3x’s on Monday, write the number word seven 3x’s on Tuesday, etc.)
Swat the Numbers – Have your child write the numbers 1-10 (1-20 if you’d like) on small pieces of paper. Mix the numbers up and call one number at a time. Have your child swat the number you say with a fly swatter (or a hand.)
I Spy: Bugs – Print out the I Spy: Bugs. Find, identify, circle and write the number of how many different bugs you found! Number Line Numbers – Have your child write the numbers 1-10 (1-20 if you’d like) on a long sheet of paper. Cover one number at a time asking your child what number is missing. You can cover more than one number at a time too!
Have your child help you with chores like setting the table, folding the laundry, etc. Have your child count the forks, napkins and plates. Sorting the laundry and counting how many shirts, socks, pants, etc. you washed. These are not only fun math activities but life skills as well!

Swat the Letters – Have your child write the letters of the upper and lowercase letters both on small pieces of paper. (Aa, Bb, etc. on one piece of paper) Have your child swat the letters you say with a fly swatter (or a hand.) and the sounds the letters make.
Read Alouds on YouTube- “The Very Greedy Bee” Talk about the story. Why was the Bee Greedy? Draw and color your favorite part of the story.

Use Play-Doh, buttons, beans, small insect toys, etc. to count out and put the correct number on each leaf. When you’re done with the numbers 1-10, do the same with the numbers 11-20. Numbers 1-5– Write the numbers 1-5 each day in your notebooks. Have someone help you write the number words. Write the number names 3x’s a day in your notebooks. Have someone guess what insect you made. Caterpillar Name- Count the number of letters in your first name and an extra circle for the caterpillar’s head. Cut out that number of circles. On each circle, write the letters of your name. Put in order and letters of your name and glue them together. Don’t forget to draw the caterpillar’s antennae and legs! Make other caterpillars for your family too! Enjoy watching the insect videos! Share what you learned about insects with your family!

Procedure – Number Flowers/Bean Counting
Number Flowers – Draw and cut 10 flower tops. Write the numbers 1-10 on each. Glue the flower tops on 10 popsicle sticks, cardboard etc. to make stems. Use anything that is sturdier than paper. Count and place paper clips on the stems to match the numbers on top. You can mix up and order the flowers too! Count out loud as you put each paper clip on the stems.
Bean Counting – Find plastic cups, cardboard rolls etc. and write the numbers 1-10 on them (1-20 if you’d like.) Use beans to count and put the correct number of beans in each cup/cardboard rolls. You can mix up the numbers and put in order the cups/cardboard rolls as well to make it more fun! Count out loud as you put the beans where they belong.
Literacy- Objective: read aloud, letter recognition, writing letters, matching upper and lowercase letters, recycling words (see pictures) Procedure – Earth Day Words, Letter Box, Finding Letters A to Z
Earth Day Words – Read and talk about each word on the Earth Day word page. Choose 5 words to write in your notebooks and draw your own pictures for each word you chose.
Letter Box – Find a shoebox or any box you have at home. Write the uppercase letters A-Z on the top of the box. Have someone cut a little opening under each letter. Write the lowercase letters a-z on the back of each spoon. Mix up the spoons and place them one at a time under each partner letter. Say the letters and their sounds as you place them under each other.
Read “I Stink.” You can find the read aloud on YouTube. Ask what happened first, next and last in each story. Ask about favorite part and why and who was your favorite character in the story and why. Draw pictures to show your answers. Finding Letters – Write the letters A-Z on 26 pieces of paper. Go on a letter hunt around your house! Find an object for each letter in your home and put it on top of the letters you wrote. See if you can find an object for each letter! Take a picture and show us what you found! If you can’t find an object you can draw a picture!

“I Stink” Garbage Truck -Create your own “I Stink” garbage truck out of a box, egg cartons, etc. Talk about how you made your garbage truck and what you used to make it.
Recycling Song – Sing the Recycling Song with your family. Draw a picture of you doing what the Recycling Song says to do. Share with your family what you drew.
Mixing Earth Colors – In a Ziplock bag, put blue and green paint. Close the bag tightly and use your hands to move and mix the colors around! You’ve made the colors of our Earth! Talk about what happened when you mixed the colors.

Procedure – Paper Plate Matching/Q-tip Number Writing
Paper Plate Matching- Use 10 paper plates. Cut each plate in half. Write the numbers 1-10 on the 10 cut sides and draw 1-10 dots on the other 10 cut sides of the plates. Mix up all the cut pieces and match numbers to dots.
Q-tip Number Writing - Write the numbers 1-10 on a large piece of paper (higher numbers if you want.) Dip Q-tips in paint and trace over the numbers you wrote. Use the Q-tips to also make dots to match the numbers written. Number Scavenger Hunt – Find the items on the Number Scavenger Hunt.

Name Writing - Write the letters of your first name and last name on large pieces of paper. You can use the Q-tips dipped in paint to trace over and/or make dots over the letters in your name. Identify the letters. Use other names too!
Paper Cup Matching– Write the uppercase letters A-Z on a large piece of paper. Write the lowercase letters a-z on the bottom of paper/plastic cups. Match the upper and lowercase letters by putting the matching letter cups on the paper. Mixed Up Letters – Cut out/print all the letters of the alphabet. Mix the letters up and glue them in order in a piece of paper. Identify the letters as you find and glue them.

Procedure – Popsicle Sticks/Straw/Yarn shapes - Draw a large circle, triangle, square, rectangle, oval, square and other shapes you know on paper. Create those shapes using straws, yarn and/or popsicle sticks on top of and next to the shapes you drew. Count how many sides and corners each shape has. Shape Scavenger Hunt – Find shapes around your home and outside. Draw the objects you found that match the shapes. Pizza Counting – Create a pizza by drawing a large circle on a piece of paper. (or in a pizza box) Separate your pizza into 10 parts by drawing triangle slices. Write the numbers 1-10 on the triangle slices you drew. Trace and cut 10 large triangles to match the 10 triangle slices on your pizza. Draw dots on each slice (one dot on slice 1, two dots on slice 2 etc.) Match the dot slices to the numbers on the pizza you drew.

Procedure – Recognize and write the upper and lowercase Qq 5x’s each day, draw 3 pictures that begin with the letter Qq, cut out/print pictures to create a Qq book or poster. Find something in your home that begins with the letter Qq. Share what you found with your family. Identify the letter Qq in books you read, games you play or on labels you have at home.
Litter Monster Poem -Have someone read the “Litter Monster Poem” to you. Talk about what the poem means and what the Litter Monster does that’s wrong. What would you tell the Litter Monster to do to take care of the Earth.
Letter Monster – Create your own “Letter Monster” out of a small box or bin you have at home. Write the uppercase letters A-Z on 26 pieces of paper and the lowercase letters a-z on 26 pieces of paper. Mix them up and place them on the floor. Find the matching partner letters. When you find a match, put it in the mouth of the “Letter Monster” you created. (see picture)

PreK-4 lessons for the week of March 30 – April 3 Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Please continue to collect recyclables. Your child will need them for activities and projects. Please write your first and last name every day.
Math - Objective: Number recognition, Counting, matching numbers to quantity (see pictures)
Procedure – Recycling Number Game – You’ll need 2 containers. One for numbers and one for dots. Have your child write each number 1-10 on 10 individual small pieces of paper. Then draw dots showing 1-10 on 10 more individual small pieces of paper. Crinkle up these 20 papers and drop them on the floor. Have your child pick up one paper at a time identifying each number and counting how many dots. The number papers go in the paper container, the dots go in the dot container. You can also have your child match numbers to dots.
Procedure - Cardboard Tube Counting – Use 10 cardboard rolls. You can cut them in half if they’re paper towel rolls. Have your child write the numbers 1-10 on each one. Cut straws or use small items to count and put in each numbered roll. Your child can count the items going in and count the items when they’re taken out. Mix up the number order of the tubes to make it more challenging. Write the numbers 1-10 in your notebooks.

Procedure – Recognize and write the upper and lowercase Ee 5x’s each day, draw 5 pictures that begin with the letter Ee, cut out/print pictures to create an Ee book or poster. Find 3 things in your home that begins with the letter Ee. Share them with your family. Identify the letter Ee in books you read, games you play or on labels you have at home.
Alphabet Game – You’ll need 2 containers for this game. One for uppercase letters and one for lowercase letters. Label each container. Have your child write each upper and lowercase letter of the alphabet on its own piece of small paper. (You will have 52 pieces of paper - 26 uppercase and 26 lowercase letters) Crumble the 52 pieces of paper and drop them on the floor. Have your child pick up, open and identify the letter on the paper picked up. Ask your child where the letter should go – the uppercase or lowercase container. You can have your child match the upper and lowercase letters as well.
Read “Something from Nothing.” You can find the read aloud on YouTube. Ask what happened first, next and last in each story. Ask about favorite part and why and who was your favorite character in the story and why. What 5 things did the grandfather make? Draw pictures to show your answers. Go over new vocabulary words – paper, plastic, glass, metal. Have your child write these words and print or have your child draw pictures to match each word. Please refer to the upper and lowercase letter writing sheets that were sent home so your child will know how to correctly write letters.

Procedure - Recycling Person - Using newspapers and/or magazines, bottle tops, egg cartons, etc. create a Recycling Person. Cut up pieces of paper and use the small recyclables to create your own Recycling Person. Name your person and talk about how you made it with your family. You can create a Recycling Family using the same materials if you’d like as well!
Painting with Recyclables – If you have paint at home, collect and paint with tubes, bottle caps, plastic bottles, egg cartons, etc. Talk about what you made with your family. If you have no paint, decorate the recyclables you have with markers, stickers, etc. Recycle old dried out markers by putting them in water to create recycled watercolor to paint!
Science - Objective: Recycling Procedure –Recyclables – Sink or Float – Gather small recyclables (bottle caps, plastic bottles, cardboard tubes, etc.) Before you begin, predict which items you think will sink or float. Ask your family too! Place each item in a container of water and watch what happens! Create a “Sink and Float” chart or book showing your results! See if your predictions were correct.
Recycling Nature Hunt – Take a walk around your neighborhood and/or home. Identify the recyclable items you see (see picture) Blocks - Objective - Recyclables
Procedure: Bowling Alley – Create a Bowling Alley with blocks and plastic bottles. Collect and write the numbers 1-10 on each bottle. Set up the bottles and have fun! Identify and count the number on each bottle and how many bottles you knock down each time you play!
Dramatic Play -Objective - Role Play Procedure: Set aside clean and safe paper towel rolls, magazines, bottle tops, egg cartons, plastic bottles, etc. Role play being a Sanitation Worker collecting and sorting recyclables around your home.

We will be starting our Recycling Unit this week. I’ll be sending you Recycling videos for you to watch with your child that will explain what and how recycling is done. Please write your first and last name every day.
Math - Objective: Number recognition, Counting, Sequencing (1st, 2nd, 3rd), More and Less Procedure - While at home, talk about the process of recycling and the sequential order in which you recycle items. Create a chart and count how many bottles, glass, paper and plastic you recycle each day. Talk about more and less (Which items do you recycle more and less of?) Make 2 sets of number cards (1-10 or more) at home big enough for your child to step on. Play a game where adults scatter cards around a room. Your child then finds, identifies and steps on the number card that matches the number you hold up. Have your child clap and jump that many times.

Identify and write the letters you see on the labels of the different items you recycle. Read “The Paper Bag Princess.” You can find the read alouds on YouTube. Ask what happened first, next and last in the story. Ask about favorite part and why and who was your favorite character in the story and why. Draw pictures to show your answers. Go over new vocabulary words – reduce, reuse, recycle. Have your child write these words and print pictures to match what the vocabulary words mean. Please refer to the upper and lowercase letter writing sheets that were sent home so your child will know how to correctly write letters.
Art- Objective: Cutting, Drawing, Gluing Procedure - Using boxes at home, create your own recycling bins for paper, plastic and glass. Print and/or draw pictures to label your boxes. Write the words paper, plastic and glass on the boxes. Create a 3D collage using pieces of recycled items. For example: cut up pieces of newspapers, foil, magazines, paper towel rolls, toilet paper rolls, plastic bags etc.
Science - Objective: Recycling Procedure – Watch recycling videos. Talk about what happens to the cans, bottles and paper after they’re brought to a recycling center. Have your child help sort and place recyclables in your recycling bins. You can use the recycling bins you made as well. Nature Scavenger Hunt (Handout) - Collect and save some non-living items you found during your Nature Hunt to create a “Nature Box” at home to explore and share with others.
Blocks - Objective - Small, Medium, Large, Recyclables Procedure: Use tissue boxes, plastic bottles, egg cartons, etc. with your Leggos and blocks to create small, medium and large structures. Order blocks, Leggos and recyclables in size order.
Dramatic Play - Objective - Role Play Procedure: Set aside clean and safe paper towel rolls, magazines, bottle tops, egg cartons, plastic bottles, etc. to role play working in a recycling center identifying and sorting recyclables. You can use the recycling bins you created!
Story Time: Objective – Reading Comprehension, Story Sequencing, Answering questions Choose 5 stories in the morning and read them throughout the day. You may YouTube many read aloud books if you do not have a large book collection at home! Please remember to send me pictures via email of your child doing these activities so I can share them with everyone!

Procedure: While at home or walking, make up a number of silly steps that can be acted out by your child. For example, take 2 steps backwards, 5zig zag steps to the door. Count how many steps it takes to get to the car, front door, how many steps to go up or down.
As your child gets dressed in the morning, talk about the steps… What comes 1

nd, 3
rd, etc. Also ask them do they notice any patterns on their clothing.
Encourage your child to help set the table for mealtime. Encourage mathematical thinking. Ask questions… (“If we have 5 people eating, how many napkins do we need?”)
While at home or out, ask your child if they notice any numbers on signs or anywhere else. Ask them to identify the number.
Literacy Objective: Recognize letter Aa, write letter Aa, Think of Aa words,
Story sequencing, reading comprehension.
Procedure: Read a story to your child. Ask them what happened 1

rd etc. After the story ask them what was their favorite part and why. What they didn’t like and why.
Art Objective: Cutting, tracing, copying designs on clothing.
Procedure: Parents draw a large figure of a person in your house. Have your child trace and cut it out. Have them draw clothing on it that the specific person is wearing.
Draw a picture of any signs of Spring you see.
Blocks Objective: Small, medium, large Procedure: With blocks, legos or any building toys in your home, build small, medium and large buildings. (Tissue boxes or any other box can be used as well.)
Science: Skittles experiment. Make Play doh (Handouts attached.)
